Open Solicitation for Public Art for Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station Announced
-- August 20, 2008 --
Taipei City's Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS) has announced an open commission of public artworks to be exhibited in Area One of the Nangang eastern extension's Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station.
Instructions for application will be made available to the public for a total of 64 days from Aug. 18, 2008 and registration will close on Oct. 20, 2008. The announcement will also be placed on the websites of DORTS and the Executive Yuan's Council for Cultural Affairs with a link to "public art." All individuals, work teams, or corporations engaged in art creation are welcome to participate in this open commission.
Instructions for application will be available at DORTS Civil Engineering and Architectural Design Division's subdivision 3 (No.7, Lane 48, Zhongshan N. Rd. Sec. 2) and also can be downloaded from DORTS' website at http://www.dorts.gov.tw/. In addition, an orientation meeting will be held at DORTS' headquarters F1 lobby at 2 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2008. Ms. Chien-Ni Yin, the contact window for the commissioning, can be reached at Tel: 02-25215550 ext. 8289. Any interested parties are welcome to join us at that time. Station models will be showcased in the F1 lobby, the venue of the orientation meeting, and be made available for participants to examine and take pictures.
"The concept for the public art to be installed at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station originates from the station location being a key transportation gateway among the Nangang, Neihu, and Xizhi areas, and combines with the e-Taiwan Program of the 6-Year National Development Plan," DORTS said. Thus the theme of the public art will be "Digital Space, e-Station." The installation of the public artworks will cost NT$5 million. The suggested style of the public artworks is to use high technology and digital techniques to present modern media art and a passenger interaction message corridor to highlight the unique position of the e-Station. The installation of the public artworks is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 30, 2010. For further details, please refer to the instructions for application.
