    Muzha Extension (Neihu Line) Completes
    Preliminary Inspection Successfully

    -- 2009-05-09 --

As per the "Mass Rapid Transit Pre-Operation Inspection Regulations", MRT construction and operation authorities are required to ensure that the section to come into operation meets the standards for operation. In addition, after having completed integration tests and confirmed operational safety, written notification was sent to Taipei City government on April 29, 2009 to gain approval for the conducting of the local government inspection. The results of the preliminary inspection conducted on May 7 and 9, 2009 are as follows: 12 items needed to be improved prior to operation, 35 general suggested improvements, and 15 suggested long-term improvements. Taipei City government requested DORTS and TRTC to perform all the related improvements. After passing a double-check, Taipei City Department of Transportation will send written notification to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for the conducting of final inspections. Taipei City government has placed great emphasis on the operation of the Neihu line and is anxious that the long anticipated service should begin soon. There is no doubt that the operation of the line is highly expected to provide city residents with a more convenient and comfortable transportation service.

The Neihu line, an extension of the Muzha line, starts from Zhongshan Junior High School Station, runs north passing Dazhi, Neihu, Dahu Park stations and ends at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station. The Neihu line spans 14.8 kilometers and consists of two underground stations, 10 elevated stations and one maintenance depot. After completion, it will take 21 minutes to travel from Neihu Station to Zhongxiao Fuxing Station, and 28 minutes to Taipei Main Station, significantly reducing travel times between Neihu District and downtown Taipei.
