Trial Run From Neihu Depot to Huzhou Station Marks Another New Milestone for the Neihu Line

    -- May 27, 2008 --

Eagerly anticipated by residents of the Nangang, Neihu, and Dazhi areas, construction of the Neihu line has made further significant progress toward completion. Following the first trial run from Songshan Airport Station to Jiannan Rd. Station carried out from Dec. 24, 2007, DORTS' System-wide Electrical and Mechanical Project Office and East District Project Office worked together to conduct a second test run from Neihu Depot to Huzhou Station from May 19, 2008 after the installation of electrical and mechanical systems at each station and track areas had been completed.

For the second test run, an EMU train with four cars started from Neihu Depot passed Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station, Nangang Software Park Station, Donghu Station and stopped at Huzhou Station. Subsequent test runs are scheduled to be conducted along the entire Neihu line and Muzha line starting before Aug. 31, 2008. TRTC will begin running further pre-commission tests in March 2009, to enable the best-possible preparations prior to local and central government inspections. After completion, the Neihu line will meet the Nangang eastern extension at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station where an underground passageway will connect to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.

The Neihu line, an extension of the Muzha line, is a medium-capacity transit system. It starts where the Muzha line ends at the Zhongshan Junior High School Station and runs on an elevated track along Fuxing North Road, turns right on Minzu East Road, then runs underground as it heads for the Taipei Songshan Airport. Songshan Airport Station will be located beneath the parking lot in front of the Taipei Songshan Airport. The route then passes beneath the Taipei Songshan Airport and Keelung River and reaches Dazhi Station beneath Alley 41, Lane 458, Beian Road in Dazhi. Then, it continues running along Beian Road until the side of the roundabout south of Ziqiang Tunnel where it then turns east to continue along Beian Road, Neihu Road, Wende Road, Chenggong Road, Kangning Road and ends at the Nangang Business Park. A depot will be located east of the business park.

The Neihu line spans 14.8 kilometers and consists of two underground stations (Songshan Airport Station and Dazhi Station), 10 elevated stations, and a depot. The line is scheduled to be completed and in operation in June 2009.

After completion, it will take 21 minutes to travel from the DeAn Department Store near Neihu Station to Zhongxiao Fuxing Station, and 28 minutes to Taipei Main Station. Traveling from Songshan Airport Station to Taipei Main Station will only take 14 minutes. With the completion of the Nangang eastern extension, passengers will be able to take the Neihu line to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station and transfer to the Nangang line. The operation of the Neihu line will not only shorten the commuting time for Neihu residents traveling between Neihu and downtown Taipei but will also provide them with a safe, comfortable, and convenient public transportation system.
